SENATE RESOLUTION
8615
BySenator Riccelli
WHEREAS, We welcome the children of Washington to the state Senate today, including the middle and high school students serving as pages, and we celebrate their curiosity, insight, and potential as they engage with the democratic process; and
WHEREAS, The children of Washington are the heart of our communities and the architects of our shared future, reminding us that the strength of our democracy lies in their ability to dream, question, and lead with courage; and
WHEREAS, Children navigate a world of diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, embracing each new experience with open hearts, and in doing so, they teach us the power of empathy, resilience, and collaboration; and
WHEREAS, The foundation of a just and prosperous society rests in our collective commitment to ensuring that every child has access to the resources they need to thrive, healthy food, safe shelter, quality education, and unwavering support; and
WHEREAS, We recognize children are not only the future but also the present, and we must actively listen to and uplift their voices in shaping policies that affect their lives, knowing that their insights and aspirations enrich the decisions we make today; and
WHEREAS, Author Toni Morrison reminds us, "if you want to fly, you have to give up the things that weigh you down," and as a society, we must remove the barriers that hinder children's growth, replacing them with opportunities for joy, creativity, and self-determination; and
WHEREAS, It is our shared responsibility, as families, educators, mentors, and leaders, to instill in our children the values of justice, kindness, and perseverance, equipping them with the tools they need to build a future that is more inclusive, equitable, and hopeful; and
WHEREAS, In honoring children's day, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a world where every young person feels seen, heard, and empowered to shape their own journey;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state Senate celebrate all children and continue to engage with young voices and commit to fostering an environment where children's dreams are not only encouraged but realized.
