WHEREAS, It has been the tradition of the Washington State House of Representatives to recognize excellence in every field of endeavor; and
WHEREAS, The Columbia River High School Volleyball Team, through incredible endurance and grit, concluded their outstanding 2023-2024 season with a historic victory in the state championship; and
WHEREAS, A victory in a remarkable five-set final match marks the fourth consecutive 2A state title for the Rapids; and
WHEREAS, Senior Captain Sydney Dreves, displaying tremendous skill and leadership, earned tournament MVP and finished the season as the All-State 2A Player of the Year and four-time state champion; and
WHEREAS, Upstart sophomore Sophia Gourley delivered the final kill of the tournament and finished the season with 395 kills, 175 digs, 50 aces, and the accolade of First Team All-Region; and
WHEREAS, Senior Katelyn Kessler concluded her final season with the Rapids as a three-time state champion; and
WHEREAS, The volleyball team committed to their keys of the season, which consisted of love, family, and mental health; and
WHEREAS, The House recognizes Karlee Ogee, Avery Seley, Aria McCarstle, Katie Dumas, Hailey Shidner, Riley Schoonmaker, Ally Staples, Ava Bond, and Grace Sheron in appreciation of the commitment to these values and their dedication to the team; and
WHEREAS, The House recognizes Head Coach Breanne Smedley and Coach Luke Carlson for their team's success this season, their commitment to the sport of volleyball, and their passion to inspire female athletes both in sports and in life;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House of Representatives congratulate the Columbia River Rapids on their extraordinary victory at the state volleyball championship, and congratulate Coach Breanne Smedley, the team's fans, and the community of Vancouver for this accomplishment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Columbia River High School Volleyball Team and Head Coach Breanne Smedley.
