Approved Paralegal Education Programs. The American Bar Association (ABA) certifies Approved Paralegal Education Programs. The ABA defines a paralegal as a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. There are five ABA approved paralegal programs at community and technical colleges in the state. Those programs are located at: South Puget Sound Community College, Tacoma Community College, Edmonds College, Highline College, and Spokane Community College.
Approved Paralegal Education Programs. There is a huge bottleneck in bringing people to trial in Yakima County. This bottleneck creates disfunction in the legal system. This is a tool to help the process move more quickly. This is also about keeping communities safe. We have added hiring bonuses and retaining bonuses, which helps, but we are still competing against the private sector.

OTHER:? Colleges consult with their communities on what their academic offerings should be. Section 2 requires these programs to be approved by the ABA, but should say "in consultation with the ABA."
