Background: The Governor is empowered to appoint the heads of particular executive agencies, as well as the members of many boards and commissions, subject to Senate confirmation. The Governor must forward pertinent information on these appointees when they are sent to the Senate for confirmation, but the scope of pertinent information is not defined.
Summary of Bill: The Governor must implement a uniform background check process for appointees who are subject to Senate confirmation. At a minimum this must include a check for any criminal convictions. Information discovered during the background check and considered as part of the appointment is pertinent information that must be forwarded to the Senate. If a criminal conviction record exists, it must be included.
