HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95-4692, by Representatives Cole and Valle

     WHEREAS, This week we are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe; and

     WHEREAS, We join with the rest of the world in commemorating this special symbol of peace and reconciliation; and

     WHEREAS, As with any historical event, those of us who lived through World War II have very vivid memories and recollections of this day in 1945; and

     WHEREAS, Everyone in this country owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the brave men and women in uniform who valiantly fought to protect liberty and democracy; and

     WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Washington State Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and

     WHEREAS, This celebration of V-E Day also serves as a reminder of our hopes and prayers for peace in the world;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House of Representatives recognize and honor the courage and sacrifices of our armed forces and take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the gift of freedom that they risked their lives to share with the world.
