AN ACT Relating to the Washington telephone assistance program; amending RCW 80.36.450; amending 1990 c 170 s 8 (uncodified); adding a new section to chapter 80.36 RCW; and declaring an emergency.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 80.36 RCW to read as follows:
As used in this chapter, unless the context indicates otherwise, "department" means the department of social and health services.
Sec. 2. RCW 80.36.450 and 1987 c 229 s 7 are each amended to read as follows:
((Lifeline service))
The Washington telephone assistance program shall be limited to one
residential access line per eligible household.
Sec. 3. 1990 c 170 s 8 (uncodified) is amended to read as follows:
RCW 80.36.410 through
80.36.470 shall expire June 30, ((1993)) 1998, unless extended by
the legislature.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 4. This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
